"Watch Yeast in Action."
In this experiment, you will see if yeast and sugar placed into a bottle will blow up a balloon tied to the top of the bottle. The independent variables would be the yeast and sugar and the dependent variable would be the inflation of the balloon. First, fill up the bottle with an inch of warm water. Next, add a bag of yeast and a teaspoon of sugar and then stir it up. Then blow up the balloon a few times to stretch it out and then place the neck of the balloon over the top of the bottle. As a result, the balloon should begin to blow up. This happens because the yeast eats the sugar and then releases carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide will continue to be created as you place the balloon over the bottle. As a result, the gas will fill up both the bottle and the balloon, causing it to inflate. I liked this experiment because it emphasizes the fact that yeast is actually living microorganisms. I think this experiment could be improved by trying it out more times.
